Best of LuxembourgTravelers to Luxembourg can enjoy hiking or biking tours, the Ardennes, wineries, breweries and castles. Luxembourg is surprisingly varied, considering its small size. The northern third of the country, called Eisleck and part of the Ardennes, has the most dramatic scenery.

The southern two-thirds of the country has abundant hiking trails. The Moselle Valley is famous for Luxembourg’s vineyard and winery region. The gentle slopes on both sides of the Moselle River are covered in vineyards.

With strict laws regarding bank secrecy, Luxembourg enjoys popularity as a tax haven and as an important financial services center. Several European Union institutions, including the General Secretariat of the European Parliament and the European Court of Justice, have their headquarters here.

In the historic centre of the city of Luxembourg lies the Grand-Ducal Palace, the official residence of the Grand Duke. This is where the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess spend their working day and where venues for state ceremonies and official receptions take place.

Notre-Dame Cathedral is another major tourist attraction. Originally a Jesuit church, this magnificent Gothic cathedral houses the royal family vault and a notable treasury. The old fortification of Casemates is listed as UNESCO World Heritage site.
