1. MoorestownThe annual 2005 survey of Money Magazine, for the best small US cities to live in, places Moorestown (New Jersey) on the top spot, followed by Bainbridge Island (Washington) and Naperville (Illinois).

This is the first available online survey of this kind, for best small American cities, of CNN/Money Magazine. Editors started with more than 1,300 cities and finally settled on a top of 100 cities. Many small American cities have good schools, great jobs and  affordable housing. Population is typically in the tens of thousands, but life is good and cost of living may be cheaper.

1. Moorestown

Moorestown is a township in New Jersey, with a population of about 19,017. Moorestown is of noteworthy success in the field of High School athletics, with the girls dominating the lacrosse scene for decades. With an excellent education system, Moorestown ranks among the top public high schools in the country for decades. There is a top graduated rate, most graduates go on to attend universities immediately following graduation, and half the graduates go on to attend ivy league universities.

2. Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island is a 28-square-mile haven 35-minute from downtown Seattle. However, island living isn’t for everyone and isolation can be tough on teenagers. You can drive to the Olympic Peninsula via bridge, but people rely on the ferry. Bainbridge Island is a small town with good schools, rational home prices, nice views, lush woods, views of the water and easy access to big-city amenities. Schools are great and residents have never failed to pass an education-related tax levy. They typically make extra contributions to the school budget.

3. Naperville

You’ll find smalltown peace in the center of Naperville, on a summer night’s walk. Riverwalk is a five mile brick path that follows the DuPage River. Young parents, teens and senior citizens stops to chat with everyone else. Naperville has every kind of shopping you could want, first-run theaters and restaurants to suit every taste. The city library has been named the best in its population category six years running.
