CalgaryCalgary was recently ranked the world’s cleanest city by Mercer Consulting, in a Quality of Living survey. This is the largest city in Alberta, a rich province of Canada. It is located close to the Rocky Mountains, to the gorgeous national parks of Banff and Jasper, close to turcoise lakes and wonderful touristic resorts.

Calgary is the largest Canadian city between Toronto and Vancouver. It is located at about 300 km south of Edmonton, the other big Albertan city.

With a number of major mountain resorts near the city and metropolitan area, Calgary is a well-known destination for winter sports and ecotourism. Calgary already hosted the Olympic Winter Games in the past, in 1988. It was the first Canadian city to host the Olympic Winter Games. One of the fastest long track speed skating ice rinks in the world was built at the University of Calgary, to accommodate these Games.

Calgary has three major adult acute care hospitals and a childrens’ acute care hospital, a Cancer Centre and a Women’s Health Centre, each providing a variety of care, in addition to hundreds of smaller medical and dental clinics. The University of Calgary Medical Clinic operates in partnership with the Calgary Health Region. This is why sanitation was ranked top noch in the world.

To the city’s fast economic growth contribute especially an economy activity centred on the petroleum industry. But agriculture, tourism, and high-tech industries are also incresing their overall contrinution as well.

Many major annual festivals are held in Calgary: the Calgary Stampede, the Folk Music Festival, the Lilac Festival, One Yellow Rabbit High Performance Rodeo and others.
