MinneapolisWith Saint Paul, the capital of Minnesota, Minneapolis is known as one of the Twin Cities. Minneapolis is just larger and lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, at the river’s confluence with the Minnesota River. In fact, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota.

Metropolitan area of the Twin Cities has over 3 million residents, with different cultures and backgrounds. Its name comes from the “City of Lakes” and the “Mill City”. Throughout the city, neighborhoods house unique shops and ethnic eateries.

Minneapolis has over twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi riverfront, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway. Today, the city is the primary business center between Chicago, Illinois, and Seattle, Washington. It was once the world’s flour milling capital and a hub for timber.

Minneapolis is also a literate city: it has plenty of cultural organizations that draw creative people and audiences for theater, visual art, writing, and music. Through private and corporate philanthropy, its community has a long tradition of charitable support, with many progressive public social programs.

Picturesque houses with spectacular views of the lakes can be found after a drive or walk around The Lakes, from Cedar Lake with its public beaches in the north, around Lake of the Isles with its bird sanctuary island. People can be found walking, biking, running, swimming, skating and boating on and around the lakes.
