City of Vienna (Austria)
With a population of about 2.3 million, considering the whole metropolitan area, Vienna is by far the largest city in Austria as well as its cultural, economic, and political center. The capital of Austria and Austria’s primary city is divided into 23 districts that radiate out from a city center, sort of like in Paris.
Anyone who takes an interest in art, especially of a decorative nature, will fall in love with Vienna. The Viennese like to say that Vienna is a village, but to the rest of the world this is the city of Mozart, Hapsburgs, horses and boy choirs.
Vienna is host to many major international organizations such as the United Nations and OPEC. In 2001, Its city centre was designated in 2001 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Its numerous imperial residences and pre-war townhouses are relics from a northern European post-Renaissance design binge that incorporated styles ranging from rococo to jugend stil. The home of classical music and the proud possessor of a world-famous opera house, Vienna is a place where extraordinarily grand baroque and Secession architecture coexist comfortably.
