City of Zurich (Switzerland)
The city of Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland and capital of the canton with the same name, joined the Swiss Confederation in 1351. Zurich is a staunchly Protestant (Puritan) city.
The cultural capital of Switzerland is also its main commercial centre. Two giant cathedrals and dozens of streets are ideal for exploring at leisure. It is a city of parks and gardens, with a particularly outstanding botanical garden. From Zurich you can also take easy side trips to other panoramic views of the country.
Zurich is one of the world’s global cities, with one of the best quality of living in the whole world. With its 19th-century charm, Zurich is surely among the most beautiful cities in all of Europe.
A major center of international finance, Zurich has the headquarters of five major banks on Bahnhofstrasse, in the heart of the city. There is no finer pleasure to be had in Zurich than walking along its quays, which line the banks of the Limmat and Lake Zurich.
Zurich has long been a great center of liberal thought, attracting such scholars as Lenin, Carl Jung, James Joyce, and Thomas Mann.
