Most Populated Agglomerations of Australia
Most populated metropolitan agglomerations of Australia are dominated by far by Sydney and Melbourne, each with over 3 million people. They are followed by three other major Australian urban areas, with population between one and two million people: Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. For Most Populated Cities of Australia, follow the link. Most notable difference is Sydney has way more suburbs, making a difference of almost one million people from the city itself and the metropolis.
Data was estimated in June 2007. With few exceptions (such as Perth or Adelaide), most agglomerations appear in the South-Eastern side of Australia.
1. Syndey
Situated on Australia’s south-east coast, Sydney is by far the most populous city and metropolitan area in Australia, with a metropolitan area population of over 4 million.
2. Melbourne
Due to its cultural diversity and the weather some may find more acceptable than Sydney’s, Melbourne continues to attract people from all over the place.
3. Brisbane
Brisbane may come as a surprise on the third place, but truth is the city saw some economical boom these last couple of years. It also moved before Perth and Adelaide in terms of population.
Here are the most populated agglomerations of Australia, as estimated in 2007:
