World’s 10 Best Commutes (2008)
Forbes Magazine publishes a top 10 of World’s Best Commutes, with world’s most reliable, cheap and efficient commutes. Top 3 cities in the world at this chapter are Hong Kong, Tokyo (Japan) and Chennai (India).
Data and research were supplied by a transportation professor, who measured the world’s largest cities based on the cost to the overall investment in improvements and the speed and safety with which workers are delivered to offices. The speed of transit contributes to a city’s economic competitiveness. Outsourcing capitals are heavily reliant on attracting informational technology companies. They do well in commuting due to the city’s high investment rate in projects like the highways and the mass transit rail system.
1. Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, one of the densest and geographically smallest cities in the world, jobs are highly concentrated on the Island, connected to the rest of the districts by rail, bus and ferry systems used by 90% of residents.
2. Tokyo
Like any city, Tokyo has its traffic problems on the roadways. Once you get used to the small seats and train employees pushing people into the cars for better use of space, Tokyo’s railway line is an efficient way to get around.
3. Chennai
With its population of 5 million, Chennai’s transit system is relatively easy to manage and highly planned as the result of its standing as a tech and outsourcing hub.
So here are the top 10 cities found by Forbes as World Best Commutes:
