Best Cities to Get a Degree (2008)
Based on the number of inhabitants with university degrees, number of international students at the tertiary level, international schools at the primary and secondary level, and top global universities located in the cities, the World’s Most Global Cities survey, presented by Foreign Policy Magazine, A.T. Kearney and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, finds London (United Kingdom) deserves the top spot, followed by a surprising Chicago (United States) and Tokyo (Japan).
While this kind of ratings may rise eyebrows, the combination of the factors considered by the surveys led to these results.
1. London
Anybody heard about the prestigious universities of Oxford and Cambridge, but London is more than that, with one of the largest numbers of educated people.
2. Chicago
Chicago may come as a surprise on the second place, while most people would expect to see here instead Boston or another big American city with a famous university. However, Chicago enjoys a better cultural diversity, and the number of international schools seems to be higher.
3. Tokyo
The capital city of Japan is also one of the top three cities where you can get a better degree. Like Chicago, Tokyo enjoys a lot of Asian cultural diversity. Japan’s high-tech-oriented economy helps recent graduates to find a better job.
