There are however more than 2000 km from each of the cities mentioned before and many Adelaide residents have never been to Perth or Brisbane. Adelaide is closer to Melbourne, at “only” 731 km.

Drive in AustraliaIt takes about 5,000 km to cross Australia East to West or West to East, from Brisbane to Perth. Most roads are along the coast, because they try to avoid the desert. In Australia driving distances are huge, no matter where you go. Some roads might be monotonous and long driving distances lead to fatigue. Just make sure you plan enough breaks if you plan to drive such a big distance.

Worst of AdelaideSome might find living in Adelaide a bit boring. It’s a great city, but its relative isolation from the rest of the country and the distances, plus the increased migration of people to other big cities like Sydney, Melbourne or even Brisbane, may have left Adelaide behind. It was a time not long ago when Adelaide was indeed booming. Now, it was left behind by the other big Australian cities, including Perth.

Best of AdelaideThere is so much you can look for in Adelaide, in museums or art galleries, or just to enjoy nature. For an entertaining night out, the highly regarded Adelaide Festival Centre is a large multi-purpose arts center with a number of theatres, galleries and concert venues. Go shopping in the city center.

Visit the lovely Botanic Gardens, in the center of urban Adelaide. They include the Bicentennial Conservatory, a glass construction brimming with rainforest plants and flowers. Continue reading »
