MontrealMontreal is a very cosmopolitan city, a unique bilingual metropolis in the middle of the eastern Canada. Most people speak French, but if you ask anything in English, anyone understands what you say.

The second-largest city in Canada and the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec, Montreal was originally called Ville-Marie or the “City of Mary”. CalgaryCalgary was recently ranked the world’s cleanest city by Mercer Consulting, in a Quality of Living survey. This is the largest city in Alberta, a rich province of Canada. It is located close to the Rocky Mountains, to the gorgeous national parks of Banff and Jasper, close to turcoise lakes and wonderful touristic resorts.

Calgary is the largest Canadian city between Toronto and Vancouver. It is located at about 300 km south of Edmonton, the other big Albertan city. Continue reading »

OttawaOttawa (originally named and known as Bytown) belongs to the Canadian province of Ontario and is the capital city of Canada. The metropolitan population is a bit over one million people. The city lies in the Ottawa Valley, on the banks of the Ottawa River, a major waterway that forms the boundary between Ontario and Quebec.

Because of its proximity to Quebec, Ottawa is a bilingual city, reflecting its French and English heritage. It is a vibrant, multicultural capital city. Continue reading »

VancouverVancouver is a great coastal city, major seaport close to the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Captain George Vancouver was a British explorer and this is where the name of the city comes from.

Population in metropolitan area was over 2 million people in 2007, but it is growing fast, especially with a large number of Asian immigrants who chose Canada as their new homeland. Vancouver developed from a small lumber mill town into a metropolitan centre following the arrival of the transcontinental railway. Continue reading »

TorontoLargest city in Canada, fifth largest city in North America and provincial capital of Ontario, Toronto is by far the most economically developed center of Canada. Located on the north-western shore of Lake Ontario, the city alone has over 2.5 million residents, but with its suburbs, zone known as the Greater Toronto Area , it may go well over 8 million people.

Toronto is a cosmopolitan city, a major destination for immigrants to Canada. By its number of non-native-born residents, almost half were born outside of Canada. Continue reading »
