1. AtlantaRepeating the 2006 experiment for Most Wired Cities in North America, Forbes Magazine ranked again 30 American cities, based on the broadband adoption (the percentage of home Internet users with high-speed connections), access options (the number of companies providing high-speed Internet access) and Wi-Fi (public wireless Internet hot spots per capita). Atlanta (Georgia) was awarded again the top spot, followed this time by Seattle (Washington) - on the third place two years ago - and Raleigh (North Carolina).

Orlando (Florida), the surprising second place in the last survey, moved on a tie for the fifth place with Baltimore (Maryland). Continue reading »

Most Wired US Cities (2006)

1. AtlantaForbes Magazine ranked 30 American cities based on the percentage of Internet users with high-speed access, the range of service providers within a city and the availability of public wireless hot spots. The 2006 survey for Most Wired Cities in the United States awarded Atlanta (Georgia) with the top spot, followed by Orlando (Florida) and Seattle (Washington).

Forbes started with the top markets in broadband adoption as determined by Internet market research firm Nielsen/NetRatings. They dropped cities that didn’t crack the U.S. Census Bureau’s top 100 list. They calculated service provider variety with the latest available statistics, and determined Wi-Fi hot spots per capita by public hot spot directory JiWire and population estimates. World’s 10 Best Commutes (2008)

1. Hong KongForbes Magazine publishes a top 10 of World’s Best Commutes, with world’s most reliable, cheap and efficient commutes. Top 3 cities in the world at this chapter are Hong Kong, Tokyo (Japan) and Chennai (India).

Data and research were supplied by a transportation professor, who measured the world’s largest cities based on the cost to the overall investment in improvements and the speed and safety with which workers are delivered to offices. The speed of transit contributes to a city’s economic competitiveness. Outsourcing capitals are heavily reliant on attracting informational technology companies. They do well in commuting due to the city’s high investment rate in projects like the highways and the mass transit rail system. Continue reading »

Best US Places For Business And Careers (2008)

1. RaleighIn their 10th annual ranking for 2008 of the Best Places for Business and Careers, Forbes Magazine finds Raleigh of North Carolina as the top city, followed by Boise (Idaho) and Fort Collins (Colorado).

The rankings cover 200 largest metro areas and are based on nine factors. Among the considered factors of the survey, for these business-welcoming metros: low business costs, a solid job growth and an educated labor supply. Six of the 10 metro areas are around capital cities. For a third straight year, the Southeast is home to half of the top 10. Continue reading »
