ZurichBased on the top found on the travel-oriented website TravBuddy, it looks like, from all cities of Switzerland, Zurich continues to attract most tourists in this beautiful country, followed by the cities of Geneva and Lucerne. While there is no surprise Zurich and Geneva continue to take top spots in various surveys, it is a well-deserved third place for the wonderfull Lucerne, as well as other great cities from this country which are not regularly mentioned in worldwide surveys.

The top results have been determined based on travel blogs, travel reviews, travel photos and number of TravBuddies (registered users/commentators on TravBuddy) who have visited each destination. Continue reading »

Canada’s Best Places to Retire (2008)

1. VictoriaThe May 2008 survey of Most Prosper Places to Live, of the Canadian newspaper MoneySense, also compiled a derived list of the best Canadian Places to Retire. It is not a surprise here the capital of British Columbia, Victoria, comes on top, followed by Ottawa and Kingston, both from Ontario.

Most important factor has been the good medical care and the number of doctors available. Weather (especially the number of days above freezing) has been also another important criteria. Other factors such as the household income and the discretionary income, or the percentage of new cars on the road and the unemployment rate, have been considered not so important for the retirement. Best Big US Cities to Live in (2007)

1. San DiegoWith its annual 2007 survey for Best Small US Cities to Live In, CNN/Money Magazine posted also an online poll, for big cities. At the time of this article, there have been almost 400,000 user votes and the rankings give winner the city of San Diego (California), followed by Chicago (Illinois) and Phoenix (Arizona).

It is not clear how publishers selected the 10 big cities for this poll, but the results may be relevant enough to get an idea where people think is best to live. American cities do not usually rank in the top spots in worldwide surveys mainly because of some relatively high criminal rates. However, this does not mean that life can not be great there. Best Big US Cities to Live in (2006)

1. Colorado SpringsWith its annual 2006 survey for Best Small US Cities to Live In, CNN/Money Magazine posted also a top 10 of best big US cities. The winner is the city of Colorado Springs (Colorado), followed by Austin (Texas) and Mesa (Arizona).

There are several other rankings, but we will briefly present here only the top three cities of this specific survey. American cities do not usually rank in the top spots in worldwide surveys. Main reason is high criminal rates. This does not mean that life can not be great there. Best Small US Cities to Live in (2007)

1. MiddletonThe annual 2007 survey of Money Magazine, for the best small US cities to live in, places Middleton (Wisconsin) on the top spot, followed by Hanover (New Hampshire) and Louisville (Colorado).

The survey focuses on small American cities, with good schools and safe streets, great economic opportunities and a sense of community, affordable houses or more expensive houses good to live in. The economic boom of these small cities may lead to an increased cost of living over the years, but thing is all could be worth it. Continue reading »
