1. ChicagoIn 2005, DogFriendly.com found Chicago as the most dog-friendly North American city. This is the best city to visit if you have a dog. Chicago (Illinois) is followed by Vancouver (Canada, British Columbia) and Boston (Massachusetts).

The survey looked at the quality dog-friendly places, number of hotels that welcome well-behaved dogs, the way dogs are welcome on public transportation, and reasonably regulations for well-behaved and leashed dogs in public places. The ninth-placed Toronto (Canada, Ontario) was later disqualified because of a newly adopted Ontario province law affecting visitors and residents with dogs. Continue reading »

Driving in CanadaThere are over 6,000 km to travel Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Best Canadian cities are usually found either close to the East Coast or to the Pacific Ocean. Vancouver and Victoria are part of this last group. They take advantage of the moderate climate and the proximity to the mountain and ocean. A special mention for Calgary, a city close to the Rocky Mountains.

Most Livable Cities (2002)

1. MelbourneIn 2002, the independent UK organization Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) found Australian and Canadian cities among the best for business expatriates. The city of Melbourne (Australia) shared the first place with the city of Vancouver (Canada). Perth (another Australian city) is on the third place.

The survey was part of a Worldwide Cost of Living service assessing the level of hardship for expatriates in 130 cities around the world. A so-called hardship criterion using multiple factors (convenience of the local infrastructures, the cultural life and how safe is environment, and the health and security systems) was used to determine which cities in the world are safer.
